Asian total over/under 2.5 is one of the most common offers in football betting. In 90% of all matches it’s the main total in bookies. So we need to understand how works this total and how to use it in our picks to make profit.

Why 2.5 and not 2 or 3

Bookies like to give totals 0.5, 1.5, 2.5 and more because it’s totals without returns. You have just 2 possible results win or loss. When total of the match is 2 you have 3 possible results: win, loss and return if both teams will score 2 goals in the sum.

Total Over 2.5

Total over 2.5 means that the sum of goals of both teams must to be 3 or more and then our bet will win.

Here is simple table of explanation of total Over 2.5

For example, we have a match between Chelsea and Liverpool

Liverpool’s goals Chelsea’s goals The sum Result of our bet
0 0 0 loss
1 0 1 loss
2 0 2 loss
3 0 3 win
0 1 1 loss
0 2 2 loss
0 3 3 win
1 1 2 loss
2 1 3 win
1 2 3 win
2 2 4 win

Conclusion: we need to have 3 goals in the sum to win the bet and no matter one team will score 3 goals, or both. Profitable results for our bet is 3-0, 0-3, any draw which starts with 2-2 and more, 2-1, 1-2 and any win with bigger score.

Just add all goals form 1st and 2nd team and you need to have minimum 3 in total. 2 goals and less will be unprofitable result for our bet.

Total under 2.5

If you already understand how do total 2.5 works, you will haven’t problems to understand how works total under 2.5 because it’s just the opposite to over 2.5

We have the same table with the same teams

Liverpool’s goals Chelsea’s goals The sum Result of our bet
0 0 0 win
1 0 1 win
2 0 2 win
3 0 3 loss
0 1 1 win
0 2 2 win
0 3 3 loss
1 1 2 win
2 1 3 loss
1 2 3 loss
2 2 4 loss

Profitable results for us: the draw 0-0 and 1-1, win for any team with score 1-0 or 2-0

Any other result (2-2, 3-0, 0-3, 2-1, 1-2 or more) will be unprofitable for our bet under 2.5 because the sum of goals will be more than 2.
